LFP teams up with Ooyala for OTT platform
US technology company Ooyala has been appointed by French soccer body, the Professional Football League (LFP), to assist in the creation of a new over-the-top (OTT) platform.

The LFP will utilise the Ooyala Flex Media Platform to optimise and streamline the worldwide delivery of the its direct-to-consumer (DTC) content, including video from Ligue 1, French soccer’s top flight.

Ooyala's involvement came upon recommendation from software giant Microsoft, which also has ties to the LFP’s upcoming OTT service.

Ooyala will handle the project’s video components, with Microsoft tasked with customising a new workflow that drives LFP video content to consumers in a timely and affordable fashion.

"This new relationship is an exciting addition to Ooyala's presence in France and our dramatic growth throughout Europe," said Jonathan Huberman, Ooyala chief executive.

“LFP's ambitions to distribute their video content not only throughout France, but also globally, required an entirely new platform and the right partners to supplement their own staff.

“LFP is playing on a new level, and they'll need the flexibility and functionality of the Ooyala Flex Media Platform to get their content on every device, platform and in every language to reach their growing legion of fans worldwide."

Though the terms of the partnership were not fully disclosed, its delivery will encompass all 44 clubs from French soccer’s top two championships, as well as video production from the country’s professional club cup competition, Coupe de la Ligue.

"To launch our new video service, we needed a solution that could not only handle our needs today, but grow with us into the future," said Olivier Imbert, the LFP’s chief information officer.

"The Ooyala Flex Media platform can do just that. It integrates seamlessly with our existing technology and systems, and is highly scalable to address new and more complex workflows as our service expands to reach new viewers across the world.”
