Leicester up recycling game with Bakers Waste
Waste management firm to focus on improving King Power Stadium’s sustainability.

Premier League outfit Leicester City have signed a deal with Bakers Waste, which sees the waste management company become the club’s official waste partner.

The two parties have worked together for a decade, but the agreement with the 2015/16 Premier League winners means that the Leicester-based firm will take on official partner status.

As part of the arrangement, Bakers Waste will work to improve recycling practices at the team’s King Power Stadium, while also supporting the soccer club in their ‘Pass on Plastic’ campaign, which encourages Premier League clubs to clamp down on the use of single-use plastic.

The company will also work towards putting together an environmental plan in order to move the club closer to reaching the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard.

Operations Director at Leicester City, Kevin Barclay, said: “It’s one of a number of steps the club is taking to improve its waste processes in order to help protect the environment. Leicester City Football Club is committed to recycling and reducing the amount of plastic it uses.”

Bakers Waste Managing Director, Paul Baker, added: “To help reduce the environmental impact of such a large and high-profile venue, is an exciting challenge and one Bakers Waster are keen to take up.”

On the field, Leicester sit seventh in English soccer’s top flight, having beaten both Manchester City and Chelsea recently. However, Claude Puel’s side was knocked out of the FA Cup on Sunday by League Two club Newport County.
