Legends of the game flock to Oeiras for Soccerex Europe
Portuguese football legends Deco, Nuno Gomes and Paulo Ferreira will join international stars such as Marcos Senna, Christian Karembeu and Laura Georges in the programme for the inaugural Soccerex Europe in Oeiras on 5th & 6th September.

Hosted in partnership with the Municipality of Oeiras and the Portuguese Football Federation and with the support of LaLiga, Liga Portugal and hydration experts Totum Sport, the two day business event will focus on the future of football across Europe. Along with senior administrators from FIFA, UEFA, ECA, European Leagues and FIFPro, and clubs such as Ajax, Benfica, Juventus, Manchester United and Valencia, the programme will feature former players from Portugal, Spain, France and the USA who between them boast over 580 caps, Five UEFA Champions Leagues and two FIFA World Cups.

Former Spanish midfielder, Marcos Senna, will be talking about the anatomy of a winning team, sharing his insights from the all-conquering Spanish that won the UEFA European Championships in 2008 and then went onto to win the FIFA World Cup in 2010. He will be joined in the panel by Portuguese legend Deco who was integral to the UEFA Champion’s League winning sides at FC Porto and FC Barcelona and went onto further domestic success with Chelsea.

From the Women’s game, Laura Georges, one of France’s most capped players and now General Secretary, French Football Federation will be looking back at this summer’s hugely successful FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and what it means for the global growth of women’s football. Adding her insight to this discussion will be Rebecca Smith, former New Zealand international and FIFA Women’s World Player of the year nominee who is now Global Executive Director of the Women’s Game for leading youth media brand, COPA90.

Soccerex Europe will close with a star studded panel looking at the career transitions of professional footballers. Portuguese legends Paulo Ferreira and Nuno Gomes will be talking about their roles as Chelsea Loan Player Coach and Liga Portugal Ambassadors respectively. They will be joined by French stars Christian Karembeu and Louis Saha who both now have business interests in digitally focused start ups and former US forward Ella Masar who recently retired after successful stints at Houston Dash, FC Rosengård and VfL Wolfsburg. Since retiring, in addition to completing her UEFA B License, she has co-founded Doyenne Sport, an agency that sources opportunities for female footballers and worked with charitable initiatives such as Common Goal.

Over two days, Soccerex Europe will gather 1500 senior stakeholders from across the football industry to network, share insight and develop business opportunities that will drive forward the future of the game.  In addition to these legendary former players, the programme features elite level experts from the continent’s leading football associations, clubs and organisations discussing a range of topics that include the growth of the women’s game, the changing transfer market, modern club business models and the role of methodology and technology in developing elite talent.
