LaLiga’s OTT platform trials social viewing feature in Sceenic tie-up
The deal will see Sceenic’s Skype-style watch together technology integrated into LaLigaSportsTV for an initial trial period. The feature will then be made available to the streaming platform’s users, enabling viewers to watch, react and comment in real-time with their friends as if they are in the same room.
Minerva Santana, Director of Innovation and Global Development at LaLiga, said the deal was part of the league’s aim “to remain leaders” by anticipating “the new models of fan engagement and forms of audiovisual content consumption”.
Sceenic Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Williams added: “Working with LaLiga is taking Sceenic to a whole new level. As the potential reaches a global scale, we are talking about billions of potential users for our technology. This certainly is a big challenge for us as a company, as we will be enabling people all over the world to come together around their biggest passions.”
Last year, multinational broadcaster Eleven Sports agreed a similar partnership with tech startup Reactoo to roll out a feature allowing fans in its OTT markets to watch live action together in the same online space at the same time.
LaLigaSportsTV was launched earlier this year with the aim of boosting the exposure and visibility of all Spanish sports. The platform also offers live broadcasts from the second-tier Segunda Division to Spanish users as part of an annual subscription of €14.99 or €2.99 a month, while the service also showed a number of pre-season games featuring top European clubs over the summer.
