LaLiga and Serie A included on new Danish OTT channel
TV 2, Denmark’s state-owned subscription-based broadcaster, has launched a new channel on its streaming platform TV 2 Play dedicated to international sporting events, including rights to LaLiga and Serie A soccer.

The channel, TV 2 Sport X, will showcase a raft sports properties, including three matches per week from Spanish soccer’s top tier, as well as one El Clásico match per LaLiga season.

TV 2 Sport X will also show one match per week from Italian soccer’s top-flight, while the service will be offering ATP and Wimbledon tennis tournaments, as well as coverage from the National Basketball Association (NBA), North America’s premier professional basketball competition.

Furthermore, TV 2 Sport X subscribers also have access to the Athletics World Cup, the X Games, Biathlon World Cup, as well as the World Cross Country Skiing and the sport’s official Alpine World Cup.

TV 2 Chief Executive Anne Engdal Stig Christensen said: “Media consumers spend more and more time on streaming platforms, which is why we of course also have to offer more and more content on TV 2 Play.

“Introducing a new sports channel based on digital distribution and digital consumption is fully in line with our strategy of accelerating the development of TV 2 Play. We have an ambition that TV 2 PLAY should be indispensable for the Danes, and we know that sports gather, engage and excite many passionate fans.

“With TV 2 Sport X, we want to stand with an even stronger overall sports offering, and the channel is also an example of how development of quality content – and also the acquisition of rights – and development of TV 2 Play go hand in hand.”

The new over-the-top (OTT) offer adds to TV 2’s existing linear sports portfolio, which includes LaLiga matches, international cycling, WTA tennis, handball, and Danish ice hockey.

The expansion of TV 2 OTT offer has also drawn interest from other platforms, with whom the broadcaster says it is holding negotiations around the distribution of its digital sports rights.

TV 2’s Head of Sport Frederik Lauesen added: “We would like to hit even more young users and viewers with our sports offerings. That's why I'm glad we have more matches from LaLiga and Serie A with football's biggest stars like Messi and Ronaldo.”
