J League taps WSC Sports for AI-driven highlights
The J League, Japanese soccer’s top-flight, has partnered with Israel-based sports video production company WSC Sports to create match highlights powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The tie-up will see WSC Sports collaborate with J league Media Promotion (JMP), as well as Tokyo-based broadcast and productions service Imagica Live, to create in-game video content for the league’s domestic and international audiences.

Hiroaki Dei, JMP’s Chief Executive, said: “JMP prides ourselves on innovation and bringing the latest in media technology. Integrating AI technology in our production services ensures we continue to offer our fans world-class digital video content.”

WSC’s machine learning platform analyses in-game events to create customized short-form video content and has already integrated with JMP and Imagica Live’s social media as well as their other managed digital platforms.

The deal sees WSC Sports add to its sports rights holder partnership portfolio which includes the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Soccer (MLS), the PGA Tour, and German soccer’s Bundesliga.

Guy Port, WSC Sports’ Head of the Asia-Pacific region (APAC), added: “As WSC expands within Asia, we are thrilled to be collaborating with J League Media Promotion and Imagica Live.

“Fans are the winners and we are excited to bring to life more moments by video.”

The J League is bidding to grow its profile overseas, having awarded Japanese ecommerce giant Rakuten international rights to the 2019 season in June. That agreement sees league matches aired via the Rakuten Sports dedicated streaming platform in more than 140 international markets, outside Japan.
