International Champions Cup awards IMG global marketing media rights
The deal brokered between IMG and RSG, the creator of the event, will see IMG sell the rights globally – excluding the US, Mexico and Central America.
The ICC has been running since 2013 and pits elite soccer clubs from across the world against each other in a preseason tournament. Last year, the ICC sold more than one million tickets for the 27 games played across 22 cities, setting a new record.
“Our global tournament needs an international partner to help reach our distribution goals and satisfy the viewing needs of soccer fans all over the world,” said Matthew Kontos, ICC managing director. “IMG brings a unique expertise that makes them the ideal partner to continue to elevate the ICC.”
“We look forward to working with Relevent Sports Group over the next two years and to increasing awareness of the ICC and ensuring the tournament is viewed as widely as possible across all forms of media platforms,” added Michael Mellor, senior vice president of soccer at IMG Media.
The 2019 ICC incarnation will take place across the US, Europe and Asia, featuring 12 clubs and will run from 16th July to 10th August.
