Iniesta the new face of DAZN’s Spanish J1 League offering
The Vissel Kobe midfielder, 34, joins a growing group of platform ambassadors including some of the biggest names in world soccer such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, as well as Fernando Torres, who also plies his trade in the J1 League.
Last week, DAZN officially launched in Spain at a cost of €4.99 (US$5.66) per month – with the first month available for free – expanding the company’s global footprint which already sees it operate in Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Italy and the US. The service has already started streaming on social media in Brazil ahead of its official launch in the coming months.
The platform, which first announced that Spain would become its eighth market back in November, has gone live in the country with rights to an array of premium sports content including Japanese soccer’s J1 League – where Iniesta plies his trade – as well as English soccer’s Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, the MotoGP motorcycling series and EuroLeague basketball.
"It is an honour to have been named ambassador of DAZN,” said Iniesta of his deal with DAZN. ”The platform is a great initiative for the world of sports and is also helping to bring a new dimension to the J1 League.
“DAZN is reinventing the way of seeing and living the sport because it allows fans to watch their favourite competitions whenever and however they want. Also because it is helping to spread numerous competitions globally. I look forward to working with DAZN for fans in Spain and Japan.”
Spanish subscribers were able to see two of their 2010 FIFA World Cup winners facing off in J1 League during DAZN’s first live weekend, as Vissel Kobe secured a 1-0 win over Torres’ Sagan Tose.
