Major League Soccer (MLS) club DC United have signed a multi-year local rights deal with US-based streaming service FloSports, which will move the majority of their matches online.

The four-time MLS Cup winners will host nearly all of its home and away games on FloSports’ subscription-based platform FloFC.com as part of the deal, which will also feature shoulder content, including preseason training ahead of the 2019 MLS season.

The agreement marks FloSports first venture with a team in the North America’s major league sports leagues and will support broadcasts in both English and Spanish. FloFC.com will offer monthly or annual subscription packages to premium content with DC United matches also made available via the FloSports app on iOS, Roku, or Apple TV 4.

"DC United are committed to providing fans with an innovative and high-quality viewing experience for all of their regionally broadcast matches," said Sam Porter, the club’s Senior Vice President.

"Our deal with FloSports presents a new and unique opportunity for fans to get behind-the-scenes access to the DC United first team, including Wayne Rooney, Luciano Acosta, Bill Hamid and Paul Arriola, while also providing a world-class broadcast production for viewers.

"We wanted to make DC United more accessible and transparent to the fans, and our deal with FloSports will enable us to do that and to better serve the entire community."

In Canada, FloFC.com, which streams 10,000 live competitions every year, has also landed exclusive live and on-demand rights to the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana through a partnership with Serie A, Italian soccer’s top flight.

FloSports also shares global rights to more than 200 men’s and women’s soccer matches from the Big Ten Conference in the US in partnership with the Big Ten Network, based in Chicago.

Mark Floreani, FloSports’ Co-Founder, said: "We feel fortunate to find a partner that understands what we do, and also understands how passionate we are about the sports we cover.

“We think this is the start of something great for FloSports, and we can't wait to begin the 2019 season."
