Borussia Dortmund documentary to launch on Amazon

Borussia Dortmund documentary to launch on Amazon
German top flight soccer club Borussia Dortmund will be the subject of a behind-the-scenes Amazon documentary series detailing the club’s 2018/19 season.

Set to be released in August, the four part series will focus on Dortmund’s domestic and European efforts in a campaign where they ultimately finished second to Bayern Munich and were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by English side Tottenham Hotspur.

German director Aljoscha Pause has developed the series which will be available in over 200 countries via Amazon’s Prime Video platform.

Last year, Pause released a stand-alone documentary about Dortmund player Mario Götze and has created films regarding homophobia in soccer as well.

Carsten Cramer, Dortmund’s Managing Director, said: “Pause has once again demonstrated his incredible filmmaking talent and has succeeded not only in discreetly producing a fascinating insight into the everyday goings on at a football club, but also in showing BVB how it really is.”

Dortmund Captain Marco Reus added: “Pause and his team very quickly felt like part of our squad as we celebrated victories and processed defeats together.

“Although ultimately we just missed out on our dream of winning the German championship, I’m still very much looking forward to the finished documentary.”

The series will feature interviews with key figures in the Dortmund set-up including manager Lucien Favre, as well as chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke, with supplementary with dressing room and training centre footage, as well as diving into the players’ private lives.

The series follows the similar vein of Amazon’s own behind-the-scenes sports documentary series.

The popular All or Nothing documentary franchise has focused on English soccer club Manchester City, the New Zealand All Blacks rugby union side, as well as the National Football League’s (NFL) Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys, plus the Michigan Wolverines US college football team.
