Borussia Dortmund agree ‘€250m’ Puma deal
German soccer club Borussia Dortmund have extended their partnership with sportswear giant Puma.

German soccer club Borussia Dortmund have extended their partnership with sportswear giant Puma, which will continue as the Bundesliga club’s official kit supplier until the end of the 2027/28 season.

The agreement, which is reportedly worth €250 million (US$278 million), is for eight years starting from the start of the 2020/21 season, is the culmination of mid-term renegotiations earlier this year.

The new arrangement apparently triples the fee for Dortmund’s existing ten-year deal signed in 2012, worth €10 million (US$11.2 million) a year.

Hans-Joachim Watzke, Dortmund’s Chief Executive, said: “For many years, Puma has been more than a supplier and a sponsor for [the club]; it has been a heavyweight in the shareholder structure of our club too.

“This shows the enormous identification of Puma and its staff across the world. Our partnership has grown and extends far beyond the boundaries of a normal business relationship. We would like to add another chapter to our joint success story in the coming years.”

Borussia Dortmund’s Managing Director Carsten Cramer, who conducted the contract negotiations between the club and Puma, said that it was “almost a logical choice that we’d continue working together in the future”.

Adding: “Borussia Dortmund and Puma share the same philosophy of intensive football and an emotional fan experience. Puman is one of the most creative and dynamic sporting goods brands on the planet and yet it has retained a family feel.

“We’re proud that two companies with such a positive energy will continue to bounce off each other going forward.”

Puma’s partnership portfolio also includes several other deals with top-tier European soccer clubs, including English champions Manchester City, Italian side AC Milan, Spanish outfit Valencia, and also Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille.
