Anfield to host Liverpool in Women’s Super League game for first time
Anfield, home of English soccer giants Liverpool, will stage its first ever Women’s Super League (WSL) match next month.

The iconic stadium will welcome Liverpool Women when they face city rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby on 17th November

Liverpool’s women’s team currently play league games at the 16,500-seater Prenton Park, home of Tranmere Rovers, but will make the switch to Anfield for the famous fixture as the WSL looks to build on the success of the English national team’s fourth place finish at this year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup.

To encourage as many people as possible to attend the game, adult tickets will cost only UK£5 (US$6.4) with free entry for up to three accompanying children under 16.

The derby will be the latest WSL match this season to be played at venues usually used by men’s teams. In September, the opening weekend of the competition saw Manchester City host city rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium, while Chelsea faced fellow Londoners Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

The two stadiums brought in 31,213 and 24,564 fans respectively, with the former setting a new attendance record for the WSL. Overall, the opening matchday attracted 62,921 fans, a 12-fold increase on the 2018/19 season when 5,167 fans attended the first round of fixtures.

Peter Moore, Liverpool’s CEO and Chairman of their women’s team, said: "This is an historic moment for women's football on Merseyside.

"We're incredibly proud to have our women's team play their first league game at Anfield and for it to be a Merseyside derby against Everton makes it extra special."

Liverpool are currently second from bottom of the WSL and are without a league win all season. They next look to break their duck against bottom club Birmingham City on Sunday.
