Ajax extend Ziggo shirt sponsorship deal
The Eredevisie champions last renewed with Ziggo, a Dutch pay-TV network, in October 2018, extending their partnership through 2020. After a successful season for the Amsterdam-based club, the two parties have decided to add two more years to that arrangement and an option for two more.
Ziggo, which first partnered with Ajax in 2015, has been paying around €8 million a year, plus as much as €2 million in bonuses up to this point, but according to reports that sum is now set to increase. According to the club’s accounts, Ajax brought in around €28.9 million in total sponsorship revenue in 2018.
Edwin van der Sar, Ajax chief executive, said: "We are very grateful to Ziggo for the trust placed in us and the way in which they, as the main sponsor, give substance to our cooperation.
“Ziggo will also organise several activities and promotions for our fans this season.”
The network – a joint venture between Vodafone and Liberty Global - retains its prominent branding across Ajax’s physical and digital assets and will now also provide exclusive Ajax content via Ziggo Sport as part of the extension.
Marcel de Groot, Vodafone-Ziggo director, added: "With our new partnership, customers can now enjoy Ajax even more than before. From unique win promotions, with ultimate Ajax experiences such as the ‘Golden Seats’, to exclusive Ajax content on Ziggo Sport. Think of the weekly program Inside Ajax, but also the live broadcasts of European preliminaries and practice duels.”
