Street Child United launch World Cup campaign #Challenge14
Street Child United volunteers are walking 14 marathons in 14 consecutive days and visiting flagship stadiums across multiple countries to raise funds to tackle the stigma faced by street-connected young people worldwide.

Street Child United is a charity which uses the power of football to tackle the stigma faced by street-connected young people across the world.

At the Street Child World Cup: The Future Depends On You, held in Moscow in May, more than 200 street-connected young people from 20 countries came together to take part in a football tournament, festival of arts and campaign for their rights.

Now three Street Child United volunteers are going the extra mile, or extra 367 miles, to raise money support the charity’s work. The volunteers are walking 14 marathons in 14 consecutive days in 14 different cities.

They are walking in each of the European countries to have qualified for the FIFA World Cup and are completing their incredible challenge in Moscow on the same day the tournament kicks off.

So far in the challenge, called #Challenge14, the volunteers have walked marathons in London, Brussels, Paris, Zurich, Belgrade, Zagreb, Berlin, Warsaw, Copenhagen and Reykjavik. They still have four marathons, or 104.8 miles, left to walk, in Stockholm, Lisbon, Barcelona and Moscow.

The footballing community has been getting behind #Challenge14. The volunteers have been welcomed at football clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, Anderlecht and FC Zurich. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have donated shirts for Street Child United to auction. The Danish Football Association generously provided tickets for the volunteers to watch Denmark’s pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico.

Players and managers have been supporting the challenge too, including FIFA World Cup winner Gilberto Silva, Premier League winner Lee Dixon and Crystal Place legend Mark Bright. Allan Pardew is joining the volunteers to walk the Barcelona leg on #Challenge14 on Wednesday 13 May.

The challenge has already raised an incredible £30,000. You can support #Challenge14 by donating on the Just Giving page, or find out more about the impact the fundraising will make on the Street Child United website.
