Sporting Kansas City name Jake Reid as new chief executive
Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Sporting Kansas City have named Jake Reid as chief executive of Sporting Club, the franchise’s ownership group.

Reid, 35, assumes his new role having served as the Sporting KC’s president since January 2016— a position he will continue to hold.

He joined the MLS side in 2010 as the vice president of ticket sales and service, before being promoted to chief revenue officer in 2012.

Reid succeeds Robb Heineman, who has served as chief executive of Sporting Club since August 2006. Heineman will remain a Sporting KC owner.

Under Reid’s leadership, Sporting Kansas City have experienced substantial growth over the last eight years in season ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and merchandise and concession revenue.

“I'm still as passionate as I was on day one to be out there representing the ownership group and Sporting Kansas City as an organisation,” said Reid. “But it's as much about representing Kansas City as it is about representing Sporting. We're still the second smallest market in MLS, but we feel like we're punching way above our weight class, which is a great representation of our city.”

“Jake has done a great job of overseeing the growth of the organisation for over two years now,” Heineman added. “For me, working with the staff and interacting with the fans has always been my favourite part of the job, and that will continue.”

Reid began his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), serving as an account executive with the New Orleans Pelicans and a sales manager with the Charlotte Hornets. He then moved to England to work for second-tier soccer side Derby County as a ticket sales manager.

Sporting Kansas City are currently top of MLS’ Eastern Conference, having won four of their seven games so far in the 2018 season. They drew 2-2 at home to the Seattle Sounders on 15th April, and will host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.
