New US Soccer President to lead United 2026 Bid delegation at Soccerex China
In the spirit of unity, Canada, Mexico and the United States of America have joined together to bring the biggest, most ambitious FIFA World Cup™ in history to North America. The three CONCACAF nations are bidding to jointly to host an expanded 48 team tournament and at Soccerex China delegates will learn what this ground breaking tournament would mean for the three countries and the game of football around the world.
Having been a board member since 2007, Cordeiro became US Soccer President following an election earlier this month, succeeding long term former President and fellow 2026 bid Committee Board Director, Sunil Gulati. Both men will be spearheading the US’s efforts to promote the combined bid with at least 12 cities across the three countries set to host games if the bid is successful. Canada, Mexico and the United States have a long and successful history as hosts - 13 FIFA events have been hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, five of which set attendance records.
Cordeiro will be joined at Soccerex China by Mexican Bid Director Yon De Luisa who is also Vice President of Sports, for leading Mexican broadcaster Grupo Televisa. De Luisa has a long history in football having held senior roles at Mexican clubs such as Club America and Club Necaxa served as the Director of the Local Organizing Committee for the FIFA U17 World Cup Mexico™ in 2011.
The United 2026 bid’s involvement at Soccerex China comes just two months before FIFA’s final decision date and is especially relevant to the Chinese market given President’s Xi Jinping’s stated intention for the country to host the FIFA World Cup, with speculation China will bid for the 2030 or 2034 tournament.
China’s Major Event capabilities will be analyzed at Soccerex China as part of a focus on the overall growth of China’s football industry that will include different aspects of the national football reform plan such as coach education, investment, facilities and player development.
