MP & Silva awarded 2019 Copa America rights

MP & Silva awarded 2019 Copa America rights
Conmebol, the confederation for soccer in South America, has appointed the MP & Silva agency to market and sell rights to the 2019 Copa America.

Under the terms of the deal, MP & Silva will be responsible for the consulting, sales and after-sales services of the national team tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Brazil from 14th June to 7th July next year.

MP & Silva will have a team based in Brazil that will work exclusively in coordination with Conmebol and the local organising committee of the 2019 Copa America. Conmebol made the decision after analysing offers that were submitted on 13th March.

“We are proud to be awarded the opportunity to work with Conmebol on such a globally popular football tournament as Copa America,” said Frank Uddo, MP & Silva president of Americas. “We look forward to working closely with them to deliver new and exciting opportunities for global fans to experience some of the best and most competitive football in the world.”

The tender process was supervised by auditing firm Ernst & Young, and the appointment of MP & Silva took place within the framework of Conmebol reforms, which were introduced in 2016 in an attempt to make the governance of South American soccer more transparent. That move came in response to a corruption scandal involving the Datisa joint venture company, which was accused of bribing regional soccer federations to win and retain lucrative contracts for the marketing of broadcast and sponsorship rights to the 2019 and 2023 editions of the Copa America.

Last September, MP & Silva were beaten to the rights to South America’s Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana club competitions by a US$1.4 billion bid by a joint venture between IMG and Perform.
