IMG secures La Liga distribution deal in 12 European countries
Global sports agency IMG has been appointed to sell and distribute the media rights to Spanish soccer’s top-tier La Liga in 12 European countries.

The three-year deal includes rights for the 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, and is across all media platforms.

The agreement covers the Balkans, where IMG will be selling into Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro. Meanwhile in the Nordics, IMG will distribute rights in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

“We are extremely proud to be working with LaLiga to distribute their coverage across all platforms,” said Enric Rojas senior vice president of sales for IMG Media. “La Liga is one of the strongest and most popular leagues in world football and is extremely popular with a large and dedicated following in both the Nordic and Balkan countries.

“The Spanish league features some of the best club sides in the world, as well as some of the best players, including the two very best in Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. We are delighted to be working with the association for the next three years.”

“La Liga is a television spectacle, bringing viewers as close to the action as possible,” added Melcior Soler, director of the audiovisual department at La Liga. “We work hard to deliver the best experience to fans everywhere by presenting one of the best televised sporting events in the world. We’re pleased to work with IMG to bring La Liga to 12 different countries around Europe.”

The deal adds to IMG’s budding portfolio of soccer rights, and follows last year’s news that the agency has acquired the global media rights to Italian soccer’s top-tier Serie A until 2021, in a deal thought to be worth €340 million (US$401 million) per season.
