ESPN renews Champions League rights deal in Latin America
Uefa, the governing body for soccer in Europe, has renewed rights deals in Latin America for its Champions League and Europa League club competitions with pay-tv giant ESPN.

The sports broadcaster will retain Spanish-language rights in the region for a further three seasons, from 2018/19 until 2020/21.

ESPN will carry a total of 71 Champions League matches per season, with 36 matches from the final playoff round, the group stage, the round of 16 and the quarter-finals to be exclusive to ESPN and on pay-TV. The semi-finals and the final will be non-exclusive.

The broadcaster will also show 103 Europa League games each season, including 102 exclusive matches on pay-TV from the group stage, round of 16, round of 32, quarter-finals and semi-finals. The final will be non-exclusive.

ESPN’s new deal with Uefa kicks off on 15th August in Tallinn, Estonia with the 2018 Super Cup, the annual meeting between the victors of the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League.

Games from the three competitions will be televised across all of ESPN’s television networks including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN+ and streamed live on ESPN Play, the broadband network available to fans via internet and mobile devices.

In addition, ESPN will offer coverage including goals and highlights of each match, and special reporting and analysis throughout the tournaments via its regional digital platforms.

For the first time, the broadcaster will also distribute match highlights across its social media platforms.

ESPN will also show highlights and magazine programs, as well as pre- and post-match studio shows dedicated exclusively to the competitions.

The 2018 Champions League final will see Premier League outfit Liverpool face off against La Liga giants Real Madrid in Kiev on 26th May.
