DFL appoints MLS exec to co-lead New York office
The German Football League (DFL), the organising body for soccer’s Bundesliga, has appointed Arne Rees and Melanie Fitzgerald to head up its new US office in New York.

The new international branch is set to commence operations on 16th October, and Rees and Fitzgerald will jointly manage its day-to-day activities.

Rees, who previously served as chief operating officer at US agency Vayner/RSE, will focus primarily on media contracts, while Fitzgerald’s responsibilities will include brand management, marketing and events.

Rees’ previous experience also includes a stint as general manager of international digital business at US sports broadcasting giant ESPN, while he also spent six years as head of strategy and business development for Uefa.

Fitzgerald, meanwhile, joins from Major League Soccer (MLS), where she has served as director of international media since 2012.

The DFL’s New York office will become the organisation’s second international branch. The DFL has operated an office for the Asia-Pacific region in Singapore since 2012, focusing primarily on markets such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
