DAZN enters Brazil with exclusive Ligue 1 and Serie A rights
OTT platform also takes Copa Sudamericana rights on four-year deal.

Over-the-top (OTT) subscription service DAZN has announced it will launch in Brazil in 2019, with an initial offering which includes exclusive rights to the Copa Sudamericana, as well as Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1.

The platform, which will begin operations in the country in March, will broadcast every match from the top tiers of Italian and French soccer until 2021.

As part of the deal with the two leagues, DAZN will stream selected games from the two countries’ premier divisions for free on both Facebook and YouTube before DAZN’s service goes live in Brazil in March.

In addition, every game from the Copa Sudamericana, the second-most prestigious club competition in South America, will be broadcast through 2023.

Coverage on the platform’s social media channels will begin on 7th December, with the deal allowing fans to watch Brazilian stars Neymar and Douglas Costa in action in their respective leagues.

DAZN is set to announce further additions to its Brazilian package before next year’s launch.

Simon Denyer, Chief Executive of DAZN Group, said: “Football is a way of life in Brazil and so launching there with such significant rights is a huge moment for DAZN, cementing us as the fastest growing sports broadcaster in the world. We’ve expanded our footprint to nine countries on four continents in just over two years, and that is only the beginning.”

CONMEBOL President, Alejandro Dominguez, who awarded the Copa Sudamericana rights to the OTT platform, added: “DAZN’s fans first approach of offering flexible and affordable access to the world’s biggest sports is a perfect fit for us and we look forward to working with them over the next few seasons.”

The announcement follows similar news a fortnight ago, with DAZN confirming that it will launch in Spain in 2019, with MotoGP, English soccer’s Premier League and Euroleague Basketball so far confirmed as part of the platform’s initial offering.
