Chelsea bid to unearth esports star with We Are Social Sport
Agency to help find club gamer for Premier League esports tournament

English soccer giants Chelsea have partnered with social media marketing agency We Are Social Sport, to run a campaign that will deliver the club’s first gamer. 

The London club is searching for an esports star to represent them in the inaugural ePremier League tournament (ePL). The ePL, which kicks-off in January 2019, is being run by the Premier League in partnership with Electronics Art and sees each club in English soccer’s top-flight field an entrant to battle it out on the FIFA games series.

The campaign was launched with Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola featuring in a video produced by We Are Social Sport, where he is joined by first team stars such as Eden Hazard and David Luiz urging fans to sign up to represent the club. The club have up to  4th January, 2019 to register its gamer for the esports tournament.

Commenting on the initiative, Chelsea’s Marketing Director, Gary Twelvetree, said: “Gaming and sport go hand-in-hand; both have passionate communities that often overlap with one another.

“There are some incredibly talented gamers out there and this campaign will bring our fans closer to the club and give them the unique opportunity to win a title for Chelsea.”

Gareth Leeding, Group Creative Director for We are Social Sport, added: “We know the FIFA community is massive, with millions of super competitive gamers. To activate the inaugural ePremier League and give those real football fans and highly engaged gamers the opportunity to be part of a club as big as Chelsea, it’s an opportunity that could change their lives.”
