Bernd Hoffmann named Hamburger SV president
Bernd Hoffmann has been appointed as the new president of top-tier German soccer side Hamburger SV.

Hoffmann, who was formerly the chairman of the Bundesliga outfit and served as chief executive of the club from 2003 to 2011, was elected on Sunday at the team’s general meeting, when he gained 585 of the votes cast, amounting to 51.1 per cent.

The 55-year-old will serve for a term of four years, and replaces Jens Meier, who gained 560 of the votes.

Thomas Schulz was elected as vice president, while Moritz Schäfer was named as the new treasurer.

As president of Hamburg, Hoffmann will automatically become a member of the team’s supervisory board, which was newly elected at the beginning of February.

Hoffman previously worked for sports marketing agency UFA Sports, and since 2012 has served as a freelance consultant in the sports business.

"I am pleased that our team has won and we have a big task to convince those who were against us," said Hoffmann.

Hamburger SV have had an uninspiring season so far in 2017/18, and are currently second from bottom in the Bundesliga after winning just four of their 23 league games to date. They lost 2-1 at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, and will face Werder Bremmen away on 24th February.
