Robert Klein to replace Jörg Daubitzer as Bundesliga International CEO
Robert Klein has been announced as the new chief executive of Bundesliga International, the German Football League (DFL) subsidiary which manages the sales of international media rights and marketing activities for the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga domestic soccer leagues.

Klein, who has been the body’s chief commercial officer since May this year, will replace Jörg Daubitzer on 1st January 2018. The same date will also see Steffen Merkel - previously manager of executive projects for the DFL – assume a new role as director of operations.

Daubitzer confirmed on Wednesday that he would be stepping down from the position at the end of the year. In 2008, the 50-year-old was appointed to the management board of the DFL’s marketing subsidiary, DFL Sports Enterprises, before initiating the establishment of Bundesliga International, which was officially launched in July.

“I am very proud to have helped steer the growth of the Bundesliga over such a long period and I would expressly like to thank DFL, its corporate bodies and the clubs for the trust they have placed in me,” said Daubitzer. “I also appreciate Christian Seifert’s very positive support as regards my wish to strike out in a different direction. I am sure that Bundesliga International will have a very successful future and I wish the company and its employees all the best for the journey ahead.”

“DFL wishes to thank Jörg Daubitzer for his many years of commitment and successful work,” added Christian Seifert, chief executive of the DFL and chairman of the supervisory board of Bundesliga International. “We regret losing him. Over the past 25 years, he has made a strong contribution to professional soccer and, in particular, has helped make the Bundesliga more international.

“With consummate professionalism, he supported the launch of Bundesliga International and ensured that his successor was fully familiarised with the job. We wish him all the very best for his personal life and future career.”
