Everton appoint Tom Rowell as head of marketing
Top-tier English soccer side Everton have appointed Tom Rowell as their new head of marketing.

Rowell joins the Premier League outfit from second-tier club Hull City, where he had worked since October 2016 in the same role.

His responsibilities at the Tigers included managing the team’s marketing, communications and ticketing departments.

Prior to that, Rowell worked in customer relationship management and as a marketing consultant for third-tier team Doncaster Rovers, and enjoyed a stint as the head of brand and marketing at Championship outfit Birmingham City.

In his new position, Rowell will report to Richard Kenyon, Everton’s director of marketing and communications, and will oversee marketing insight and design, as well as working to enhance the Toffees’ membership scheme.

His duties will include working closely with Everton’s partnership team on activation for the team’s main partners, sport betting company SportPesa and video game franchise Angry Birds, as well as collaborating with kit provider Umbro.

The appointment follows news that Everton’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock is set to cost more than its initial UK£300 million (US$400,000 million) projection.

In December, the Toffees reported a record turnover of £171.3 million for 2016/17, and according to sports industry outlet SportCal its sponsorship and advertising revenue increased by 66 per cent from the previous year.

After a disappointing start to the 2017/18 season, Everton’s fortunes have turned since Sam Allardyce was appointed as manager in November, and they currently sit ninth in the Premier League. The Toffees lost 2-0 at home to second-placed Manchester United on New Year’s Day, and will travel to Anfield to take on local rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup on Friday.
