Borussia Dortmund get fit with IKK Classic deal
IKK Classic becomes a third-tier sponsor of Dortmund for the remainder of the 2017/18 Bundesliga season, with an option to extend. The German fund will have a strong brand presence through pitchside LED boards at BVB’s home ground, the Westfalenstadion.
Although the financial terms of the agreement have not been released, German industry outlet Sponsors.de reports that IKK Classic will pay Borussia Dortmund €600,000 (US$ 720,000) for the one-year deal.
In addition, the two parties have launched a new microsite on which health tips are offered, as well as organising training camps for grassroots and youths. Both initiatives will be run under the tag line ‘Fit as a Borusse’.
"The fitness and health of our professionals are always the focus for us and for the general public", said Joachim Watzke, BVB’s managing director. "We are looking forward to working with the IKK classic to move the topics of football and health in a broader perspective and, in particular, to enable young skiers to participate in our experience, for example how to eat healthy and meet the risk of injuries."
Frank Hippler, chief executive of IKK classic, added: "BVB arouses passion but enjoys a great deal of sympathy and credibility all over Germany. Borussia Dortmund is the ideal partner for us to give our health messages the emotional backwind that we need to reach not just sports enthusiasts."
After four games, Borussia Dortmund top the 2017/18 Bundesliga table. Peter Bosz’s team are yet to concede a goal in German soccer’s top-tier league this campaign and have netted ten times, their most recent fixture a crushing 5-0 defeat of FC Köln.
