Athletic Bilbao swap Nike for New Balance
The six-year deal marks the end of the Spanish soccer club’s agreement with Nike, which has been supplying the team’s kits since 2013.
Although the figures were not officially disclosed, Bilbao-based newspaper El Correo reports that the deal is worth approximately €3.5 million ($3.9 million) per year.
“We are delighted to embrace and share this new era for the club, in which we face the tough task of defending our philosophy and moving forward based on our own approach to football,” said Josu Urrutia, Athletic Bilbao’s club president.
“We feel that New Balance will become part of the history of our club, and are looking forward to working together on the challenges that await us in the future.”
Athletic Bilbao finished seventh in the 2016/17 La Liga, Spanish soccer’s top flight, and lost their last game of the season 3-1 against Atletico Madrid in the final game at the Vicente Calderón Stadium in Madrid.
