Arsenal expand with BNN Technology
Under the terms of the new agreement, the two parties will collaborate on a grassroots programme in China, which will give local coaches the opportunity to be trained by qualified Arsenal coaches.
BNN will also provide subscribers of its Xinhua News app with Arsenal content, such as pre-match interviews with manager Arsène Wenger, weekly training footage and monthly coaching videos.
“We have enjoyed a fruitful relationship with BNN since welcoming the group to our family of partners in 2015 and are delighted to expand the partnership,” said Vinai Venkatesham, chief commercial officer at Arsenal. “As a club we have a huge and incredibly passionate supporter base in China; we have tremendous engagement with our Mandarin-language website and over 5million followers across the major Chinese social media platforms.
Darren Mercer, chief executive at BNN Technology, added: “I am delighted that we are expanding our relationship with Arsenal, one of Europe’s top clubs, to help BNN play a wider role in supporting China’s football ambitions while also delivering first class content to the Xinhua News app. Arsenal’s heritage, ethos and coaching style will be invaluable as our Chinese operating partner NewNet builds a programme that will ultimately improve coaching standards throughout China.”
Arsenal are enduring one of their worst seasons on the pitch in recent years, which has led to disquiet in the stands and calls for Wenger to stand down after 21 years in charge. The 13-time English champions have fallen to sixth in the 2016/17 Premier League table after a string of recent defeats and were knocked out in the second round of the Uefa Champions League by German side Bayern Munich by an aggregate score of 10-2.
