Talksport to air Thai-language Premier League
Talksport will broadcast Premier League commentary, in Thai, of all 380 matches during the 2016/17 season for the next three years, marking the first time the English top-tier league has been broadcast in Thailand in the country’s native language.
“We’re really excited to bring the passion and excitement of the Premier League to Thai fans from next season, through this multi-platform partnership with Chang Siam Group,” said Talksport chief operating officer Scott Taunton.
“Radio has a unique ability to convey all the live drama of a 90-minute football match, and listeners in Thailand can finally experience this via our unique commentary and expert insight.”
The 2015/16 season, regularly dubbed by pundits as the most astonishing campaign of all time, was won by dramatic outsiders Leicester City, who are owned and sponsored by Thai-based duty free firm King Power.
During the club’s post-season celebrations, thousands lined the streets of Bangkok to greet an open top bus parade, showing Leicester’s unique support in Thailand.
Chang Siam Group chief executive Chanichar Bond added: “We are delighted with this agreement, especially after Leicester City’s astonishing success.
“As a Thai person, to be able to play a part in bringing the excitement of the Premier League in English and Thai to the whole of the nation for the first time is a very proud moment for me.”
