With the dust settled following a truly landmark Soccerex Americas Forum in Mexico City, all involved with the Forum can reflect on what was a fantastic two days of networking, insight and business, all with the focus of growing football in the region.

The Forum, the first of its kind to be held in Mexico, exceeded expectations with over 860 delegates in attendance including representatives from 58 countries and more than 50 companies exhibiting, ensuring there were always new business strategies to be learned and new football cultures to be discovered.  As ever with Soccerex events, the forum welcomed a diverse mix of the industry’s professionals with a 70/30 split between delegates from the Americas and the rest of the world. Delegates and exhibitors enjoyed a fantastic opportunity to connect with the industry’s elite with more than 140 club representatives and over 160 representatives from the game’s leagues and federations in attendance.  This high level of rights holder participation was driven by an institutional partnership with LaLiga whose involvement in the event also saw them play a big role in the event’s conference programme.

LaLiga’s President, Javier Tebas, managing director of sales and marketing, Adolfo Bara, and General Director for MENA and international projects, Fernando Sanz, all featured on the conference programme, alongside their recently appointed US country manager, the legendary Raul, who lit up the Forum on the opening morning with a very open 1-2-1 interview exclusive with former Real Madrid director general, Jorge Valdano.  Fellow industry leaders also on the programme included Alexey Sorokin, CEO, LOC, FIFA World CupTM Russia 2018, MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, Liga MX President, Enrique Bonilla, and FOX Networks Group President, Carlos Martinez.  A host of the game’s legends were also in attendance with Carlos Alberto Torres, 1970 FIFA World CupTM winning captain, Brazil, Gazika Mendieta, former Spain international, Brad Friedel, former US international, and Davor Suker, former Croatia International, participating in talks and walking around the exhibition floor to meet new businesses.  To view the event’s conference sessions online, click here.

Some of the key headlines that emerged from the programme included:

With the ever vibrant networking cafe and relaxed social evening taking place on the evening of the first day, the Forum truly was a two day networking fiesta. An expanded SoccerMatch facility, which links clubs and suppliers together in a speed dating format, once again proved to be a valuable component of the event with multiple deals being agreed on the day or to be signed in the following weeks.

Commenting on the forum, Adolfo Barra, managing director sales & marketing, LaLiga, said:

"It's fantastic to be here. We'll be back next year and the year after, because we love it being here.  We've had the chance to talk to a lot of clubs, with a lot of brands, people from different leagues - it's been a fantastic session for us so far."

Gaël Caselli, head of international development, Ligue 1, also stated:

"The good thing for us about Soccerex is you have a very large panel of contacts from the sponsorship side, to the events side, to even marketing agencies. Over a two-day period you get the opportunity to meet a very large panel of people.”

Soccerex now shifts its focus to the Soccerex Global Convention, taking place in Manchester at the Manchester Central Convention Complex, 24th-26th September, which will gather thousands of the industry’s elite under one roof for the world’s premier football business event.

Soccerex CEO, Duncan Revie, commented:

“I am absolutely delighted with the fantastic success of Mexico’s inaugural Soccerex Americas Forum and am very proud of both the quality and quantity of attendees that we welcomed in Mexico City for what was a brilliant two days of high level networking and insight.

“As one event comes to an end, however, the build up to another begins, and I am very excited to welcome delegates to another amazing gathering of minds in Manchester for our Soccerex Global Convention in September.  This year’s Convention promises to go one better than last year’s record breaking event, with the industry’s leading professionals, the game’s biggest stars and the world’s media all in attendance.”
