Barcelona reach agreement for Qatar Airways extension
The club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, appears to have been working to finalise the deal before tendering his resignation, which he is obliged to do in order to run for re-election as club president in next month’s vote.
The agreement will not be officially ratified until after those elections, because the deal involves a break-clause that would allow the new president to negotiate with other sponsors. It is expected however that the deal will remain in place whether or not Bartomeu wins the election.
With Bartomeu’s resignation now having been accepted by the club’s board, the election process will begin.
Barcelona are currently celebrating a historic second treble in six years, having won the Champions League final at the weekend to add to their La Liga and Copa del Rey title’s this season.
