SAFA confirms lucrative new pay-TV deal

5 August 2014 |
The South African Football Association (SAFA) has signed a R1 billion (US$93.67 million) broadcast deal with Siyaya.

The six-year agreement will see the newly launched digital subscription network show all national team games - including men's, women's and age-group sides - after SAFA's contract with public broadcaster SABC expires in April 2015.
Games from the ABC Motsepe League and Sasol Women’s League are also said to be included in the package, along with the SAFA Magazine Programme and the annual SAFA Awards.
Reports had circulated about the deal in the South African press at the weekend, with SAFA head of communication Dominic Chimhavi taking to his Twitter account to confirm the news on Monday.

'The reports are true,' Chimhavi wrote. 'Everything you read in the reports about the Safa and Siyaya deal is true.'

He added: 'This Safa/Siyaya partnership is a true game changer. Soccer cannot continue to live in the shadows of rugby and cricket.'

Siyaya TV is set to go on air in South Africa in 2015.
