Huawei makes new football connection with AC Milan

1 November 2013 |
Chinese telecommunications company Huawei has further bolstered its football portfolio by signing a three-year sponsorship deal with AC Milan through to the end of the 2015-16 season.

The agreement, which was brokered by the Serie A club’s commercial advisor Infront Italy, makes Huawei the mobile partner of Milan and its chief communications supplier. Under the deal, Huawei will be able to use the Milan brand for marketing and communications activities in Italy and abroad. The company has already signed deals with the Spanish Football League (LFP) and German Bundesliga giant Borussia Dortmund this season.

Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani said: “It is a source of great pride that Huawei has chosen to work with the Milan brand for its development strategies. We have a three year agreement which will able us to plan and develop business activities together. The partnership with Huawei will offer us fantastic commercial opportunities in the Chinese market and I am sure that it will be mutually beneficial.”

Huawei sponsored the Italian Super Cup when it was staged in Beijing in 2011 – a game that saw Milan overcome city rival Internazionale 2-1. Huawei will join Milan’s premium partner tier, sitting alongside Nutrilite, Indesit, IziPoker and Frecciarossa. “After the great response to our sponsorship of the Italian Super Cup in 2011 held in Beijing, we are enthusiastic to continue our partnership with AC Milan, a recognised leader in the footballing world that fits perfectly with our goal of leadership within the consumer market,” said George Zhao, managing director of Huawei Italy. “The popularity of the team in China opens up great possibilities in the future.”
