Betting’s position in football is an uneasy one, and depending on where in the world you are, an illegal one. It provides vast amounts of money through sponsorship which develop aspects of the game, but the returns on betting are the root of match fixing and gambling addictions cause social ills. Should football cut ties as F1 did with tobacco? Or is the answer to internalise sports betting?
