Nick Evans joined SAFC in 2016 as a first team assistant coach, before expanding his roles with the club to include Pro Academy Director. 2021 marks his sixth season with the club. Evans oversaw the staff that was named the DA Academy Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018-19. Under his guidance, San Antonio FC produced two first-team players from the SAFC Pro Academy umbrella -- Ethan Bryant (SAFC ETP) and Leo Torres (SAFC Pro Academy). Following in their footsteps are Jose Gallegos (SAFC ETP), Carson Price (SAFC ETP), Angel Bacho (SAFC ETP), Rocky Perez (SAFC Pro Academy), Joey Batrouni (SAFC ETP), Josh Ramsey (SAFC ETP) and Fabrizio Bernal (SAFC Pro Academy) who have also made first-team appearances.
Evans spent the previous two seasons before joining SAFC as first team assistant coach to Alen Marcina with the San Antonio Scorpions of the NASL. During his time as assistant at the San Antonio Scorpions, the team won the 2014 Fall Season Championship as well as the 2014 NASL Soccer Bowl. During that 2014 season the Scorpions broke the modern day NASL record for least goals conceded in a season. Evans also worked as a director of boys development of youth here in San Antonio for the past six years.
The native of Wales holds a USSF A License as well as a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science and a MSc in Kinesiology. As a player Nick joined English League 1 side Shrewsbury Town at 16 years old before going on to play over 100 games in the Welsh Premier League before moving to further his education in America. In the US, Nick led San Antonio school The University of the Incarnate Word as captain for two seasons and was a two time All-American and ESPN Academic All-American.
