Case Study: Champions Travel and talkSPORT

talkSPORT, the world’s largest sports radio station and the Global Audio Partner of the Premier League, has attended Soccerex for many years. In 2014, the company decided to expand their presence at the Global Convention by exhibiting and becoming a Soccerex media partner.  talkSPORT’s International Commercial Director Kurt Edwards used the Convention’s networking tool to organise a meeting with Jonathan McDaid, Sales and Marketing Director at Champions Travel, an online booking company that specialises in sporting events worldwide.

With Champions Travel also exhibiting at the event, the two met on the exhibition floor before drawing up plans for how the two companies could form a mutually beneficial partnership. Less than a month after the Convention, Champions Travel became talkSPORT’s international travel partner, supplying tickets for sporting events and appearing on talkSPORT’s radio and website outlets.

Discussing the partnership, McDaid described how: “Taking a stand at the Soccerex Global Convention provided us with an excellent platform to develop new business and hold face to face meetings in surroundings we owned. We are delighted to have agreed this partnership with talkSPORT and hope that the partnership blossom, as we aim to use their worldwide reach to expand into new markets.”

Edwards also cited Soccerex’s networking platform: “talkSPORT have participated editorially in Soccerex events for years, but following the Convention’s move to Manchester, we decided to use the event to develop our international business activities and are very happy to have done so. The event’s networking tool enabled us to identify Champions Travel, a company we had not formerly come across, as a potential partner and to set up a meeting with their senior Directors at their stand. These discussions proved to be very fruitful and we are excited about what lies ahead for this new partnership.”
