The Singapore based financiers Profitable Group hit the headlines yesterday after the press reported that they held talks with owner Mike Ashley, regarding a takeover package for the £100million rated club. An inside source at the investment group revealed their ambitions for the former Premiership giants:
"The plan we have in mind is to get the club on a sound financial footing first and foremost. Then we aim to turn the club into a trust. It will be very similar to the Barcelona model where fans have a major say on what happens at the club."
At last year's Soccerex convention the Profitable Group decided to promote themselves amongst the global football business community by opting to sponsor a networking cafe and purchase an exhibition stand. Steve McMahon (Commercial Director, Profitable Group) spoke on a panel at the event and outlined the company's ambitious plans for global expansion. At the Soccerex 08 convention, Profitable Group's Soccerex account manager put together a bespoke sponsorship and exhibition package that suited John Gaunt's (Director, Profitable Group) commercial plans. The package they opted for put their brand in front of thousands of international business people and gave them access to the key decision makers in world football.
Their significant presence amongst Soccerex's international delegates helped them engage with clubs, brands and key stakeholders in the football industry.
