Club ownership &stadium financing on the agenda at Soccerex 2008

The new sector-specific approach for Soccerex 2008 will include a Law &Finance panel discussion, as part of the International Football Club Summit (IFCS), entitled 'Financing club ownership and the redevelopment of stadia'.

The workshop sponsored by Hextalls Sport, in Association with Investing in Sport, will bring together legal experts and right holders from around the world to discuss the full range of legal and financial issues that affect modern day football including the process of buying and selling clubs. This workshop will also provide clubs of all sizes with information about stadia redevelopment from funding, design, planning, procurement, insurance and stadium exploitation to ensure the creation of a first-class stadium as well as a successful business asset. This exclusive session will feature senior representatives from Hextalls Sport, Glasgow Rangers FC, VfB Stuttgart and Arnecke Siebold.

Speakers include:

Matthew Clark, Partner and Chairman of Hextalls Sport. Clark's extensive sporting experience goes back more than 15 years and has appeared on Bloomberg Television engaging in the debate of Club -v- Country and the issues arising out of FIFA regulations. At Soccerex 2008, he will draw on his extensive knowledge of the process of buying and selling clubs to include securing investors, raising finances and stadia redevelopment.

Stuart Cain, Commercial Director at Glasgow Rangers FC. Rangers have won a world record 51 league titles, and have won more major trophies than any other football club in the world. Cain's position as Commercial Director is to develop commercial partnerships and new business ventures, including the development of Rangers extensive media portfolio. Cain will draw on his extensive knowledge of sponsorship development to discuss negotiating naming rights and major sponsorship deals.

Stefan Heim, Director &Boardmember of VfB Stuttgart. VfB Stuttgart's recently named Mercedes Benz-Arena (formerly Gottlieb Daimler-Stadion) will undergo a € 60 million reconstruction to turn this multi-facility arena back into a football-only stadium. In order to finance this project, the VfB Stuttgart and City of Stuttgart have jointly set up a private limited partnership, Public Private Partnership (PPP). Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

Michael Siebold, Senior Partner at Arnecke Siebold. Arnecke Siebold is a Frankfurt law firm, who have an excellent reputation throughout Germany for broad sport-law practice. Siebold will discuss the firm's involvement in the redevelopment project underway at the Mercedes Benz-Arena and the legal implications of undertaking such a project with particular regard to EU-legislation.

The Law &Finance workshop is one of six IFCS workshops that will focus on the key revenue streams available to football clubs (Player Development, Stadia, Law &Finance, Media, Licensing and Sponsorship). Each session will feature 90 minutes of networking, debate &a key note address from the leading figures in each of these industry sectors.
