Soccerex 2008 South Africa Bringing the World of Football Together
Soccerex Football Festival
The opening day of Soccerex offers a 1 day football extravaganza, to be enjoyed by attendees and consumers alike before the serious business begins off the pitch. Previous Football Festivals have attracted those across the spectrum of football's global audience: from the beautiful game's legends, to local football fans.
Held in Nelson Mandela Square, the Kagiso Football Festival provided the perfect opening to Soccerex 2007. A local youth tournament preceded the ex-pro competition, led by former players Phil Thompson, Viv Anderson, Bruce Grobbelar and Nigel Spackman, with freestylers and African dancers entertaining the enthusiastic crowd between matches.
Last year's Kagiso Soccerex Football Festival expanded to include 4 teams; African All Stars Soccerex Select, Liverpool Select competing against 2006's Champions Man Utd Select. The footballing showcase was comprehensively won by the African All Stars, much to the delight of the local support that turned out en masse.
Delegates such as David Dein and Lord Brian Mawhinney enjoyed the carnival atmosphere from the sidelines and the spectacular event reached a global audience via broadcasters SABC, SKY, SUPERSPORT, ESPN & BBC. This year's Football Festival will again combine international legends with local enthusiasm to create an unmissable carnival in celebration of the beautiful game.
