16 Nov 2012

Soccerex is delighted to announce that Sameer Pabari, Head of Digital, MP & Silva, Stephen Nuttall, Senior Director, Sports EMEA, YouTube and Domingos Soares de Oliveira, CEO, Benfica will be speaking on the ‘Future of Sports Rights’ panel at the Soccerex Global Convention in Rio de Janeiro on 24-28 November.

MP & Silva is one of the leading international media rights companies, owning, managing and distributing television media rights for sports federations, leagues, clubs and rights holders. They provide over 10,000 hours of programming to over 200 broadcasters in 215 countries which include Europe’s top leagues in football, FIFA World CupTM qualifiers and sports from around the world.

YouTube increased its football presence earlier in the year, with a deal involving MP & Silva, where a new football channel on YouTube, Love Football, was created. The deal will include highlights from Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, U.S. Major League Soccer, Brazil’s Série A and the Championship, FA Cup and Capital One Cup from England. The deal received praise from FIFA President, Joseph S. Blatter, who said:

“FIFA is keen to engage with football fans beyond our competitions by sharing our rich visual content with them, and for this there is no better platform in terms of reach and penetration than YouTube. We want to provide YouTube users with the greatest moments of FIFA World Cup history but also invite them to share theirs with us.”

Benfica recently took the innovative decision to move the screening of league matches to their own Benfica TV in a move to boost revenues. Benfica, which has the largest fan base in Portugal, rejected a deal from Olivedesportos’ PPTV, the sole operator to all domestic professional football games and platforms. Benfica will also be participating in the Club Workshop where Commercial and Marketing Director, Miguel Bento, alongside top European counterparts, will discuss the commercial best practices used by clubs.

In what will be one of the standout sessions these speakers will join Marcelo Campos Pinto, Executive Director, Globo, Carsten Schmidt, Chief Officer Sports, Sky Deutschland and Niall Sloane, Controller of Sport, ITV making it an international debate on the future of sport rights.

This groundbreaking session joins an already world class conference programme which will feature an exclusive 1-2-1 session with FIFA General Secretary Jérôme Valcke, a ground breaking session on ‘Player Ownership and Transfers’ involving Pini Zahavi, a unique session on Goal Line technology, bringing together all of the key stakeholders, including the two licensed technologies chosen by FIFA, a special legends discussion with Sir Bobby Charlton, Carlos Alberto Torres and Paul Breitner and many more.
