United recruits Jon Tibbs for PR

Manchester United has confirmed that it has hired Jon Tibbs Associates (JTA), a leading PR agency, to assist with the Barclays Premier League leader’s communications.
Since the official spokesperson for the Glazer family, who own the club, resigned at the end of last year, football and company media relations have been dealt with by Phil Townsend, the club’s communications director, alongside JTA. However, the partnership has now been formalised.
JTA was established by Jon Tibbs, an expert in communications campaigns involving the Olympic movement. The company is currently working on Munich’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
“Jon’s reputation and professionalism make him the ideal person to help modernise our corporate communications,” Townsend told the Financial Times. “What the club is seeking is a greater understanding of the international profile of Manchester United and what the owners are trying to achieve.”
