29 Sep 2008
Soccerex announced the launch of its SMS competition in aid of charity partners UNICEF and DIAMBARS during last Thursday’s Press Conference at the Sandton Centre in Gauteng, South Africa. The competition, open to all South African residents, will allow two lucky fans the chance to play in the Soccerex All Star Charity Football match, part of the Soccerex Football Festival which will take place on Sunday 23rd November, in Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton.
The match will feature a line up of great legends including Former FIFA Player of the Year, George Weah; Liverpool and England Legend John Barnes; Leeds and South African Legend, Lucas Radebe; and Spurs and England Legend Glenn Hoddle. Proceeds from the Competition will go to UNICEF South Africa and DIAMBARS.
Through its Sport for Development initiative, UNICEF has pledged its support to improve the conditions of 585 of the most vulnerable schools in South Africa, identified by the National Department of Education. These schools are often in crisis, desperately in need of action now to ensure that children have access a quality learning environment, equipment, infrastructure and spaces to play.
DIAMBARS is a worldwide project that aims to turn children’s passion for football into an educational driving force. For the second year running Soccerex will be providing DIAMBARS with an exhibition stand and provide a suitable platform for their expansion into South Africa. A second DIAMBARS Football Academy should be operational in South Africa by 2010.
UNICEF and DIMBARS will be exhibiting at Soccerex 08, 23-26 November, Gauteng, South Africa.
