Vergara and Fuentes keep Chivas USA in the family

Chivas USA has announced that Jorge Vergara and his wife Angelica Fuentes have acquired the remaining 50% stake in the club from their former partners, Antonio and Lorenzo Cue, making them the absolute owners of the Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise.
The Cue brothers were previously the day-to-day operators of the Los Angeles club, with Vergara and Fuentes holding 50% ownership since its creation in 2004. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Cues had an opportunity to assume sole ownership but declined, paving the way for Vergara and Fuentes to take over. “We are thrilled to acquire the remaining 50% of Chivas USA,” said Fuentes in a statement. “We are very excited about the future that Chivas USA will have,” added Vergara.
Vergara and Fuentes serve as counsel president of administration and executive president of nutritional supplement company Grupo Omnilife. In addition to Chivas USA, the pair have controlled Mexican giant Club Deportivo Guadalajara, also known as Chivas, since 2002.
“Chivas USA entered MLS in 2005 at a crucial stage for North American football,” said MLS commissioner Don Garber. “Antonio and Lorenzo Cue have been owners and greatly passionate, in addition to partners for the last eight years. I would like to express my eternal gratitude to the Cue family for their support and confidence in United States soccer. We hope to work closely with Jorge and Angelica as new partners of the club.”
