Opta adds Eredivisie to league partner portfolio

The Dutch Eredivisie has appointed Opta as its official data partner for the next four years, in a deal that will begin with the 2013-14 season.
Detailed live Opta data and editorial will be used to power a range of Eredivisie programming, including interactive TV services, live broadcast graphics, wrap-around and magazine shows, as well as integration into mobile, tablet and game console applications and the league’s official website. The Opta live data service will form part of a new centralised workflow at Eredivisie Live, the league’s official digital television channel, and will underpin over 600 matches. Throughout the next four years, Opta will collect, database and supply tactical and positional analysis, such as pitch-view graphics and integrated broadcast metadata.
Jan De Vries, of Eredivisie Content and Business Development, said Opta was selected after a competitive tender process. “We wanted a partner who could fully integrate into our centralised broadcast production and across all our multimedia platforms,” said De Vries. “Throughout the tender process Opta demonstrated that they were market leaders in the sports data market and we look forward to their content and insight supporting our pay-TV channel.”
Opta is also the official data partner of other major football leagues across the world, including the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga and Major League Soccer in the US. The new deal will allow it to expand its presence in the global top flight football market. “The Dutch market is a key geography for Opta as the consumption of detailed sports data is established and consumers value the insight that data brings to their match week,” added Karl Hogan, Opta’s European business development director. “This is a unique opportunity for Opta to work with a progressive rights holder and to provide a fully integrated service across multiple platforms.”
