Nurnberg lands last-gasp sponsorship win

24 Aug 2012

FC Nurnberg has ended its search for a new main sponsor ahead of the start of the new 1.Bundesliga season by agreeing a four-year deal with NKD.

Nurnberg’s partnership with the fashion and lifestyle retail chain ensures that all 18 1.Bundesliga clubs will begin the 2012-13 season with shirt sponsors. NKD’s signing comes after energy company Areva recently extended, but scaled back its partnership with Nurnberg. Areva had been Nurnberg’s main and shirt sponsor, but announced a new deal whereby it will serve as one of 13 club partners for the 2012-13 season.

“We are very pleased to have secured an international company like NKD as our new main and shirt sponsor, but one that is also firmly rooted in the Franken region,” said Martin Bader, director of sport and public relations for FC Nurnberg. “With NKD we have a strong and long-term commitment to sponsor our side and we are confident that we will make the collaboration successful.”

Dr. Michael Krause, director of NKD, added: “The great tradition of the club and the impressive stadium atmosphere with its great fans form an important basis for successful cooperation. In addition, the heartbeat of the NKD headquarters is in Bindlach and thus very close to FC Nurnberg. For us, this sponsorship is an excellent way to make the NKD brand and our large network of branches known nationwide.”
