Millicom, a telecommunications and media company, has signed a deal with Fifa, world soccer’s governing body, for a package of media rights for this year’s World Cup in Latin America.

Customers of the Tigo network, which is owned by Millicom, will be able to view live coverage of the tournament via mobile handsets and online in Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Bolivia and Paraguay.

The rights are exclusive in all territories apart from Bolivia, where non-exclusive rights have been granted. Tigo will produce an app for the tournament.

“This is fantastic news for football fans in Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Paraguay and Bolivia,” said Fifa TV director Niclas Ericson, who was quoted in a press release, “as it makes the 2014 Fifa World Cup far more accessible for fans in these territories as they need not to worry about missing any of the vital moments from the 64 matches of football’s flagship event returning after 36 years to South America.”
