Legia Warsaw boosted by double sponsorship deal

Polish Ekstraklasa champion Legia Warsaw has signed up betting group Fortuna as its new main sponsor and has extended its partnership with Adidas.

Fortuna has agreed a three-year deal effective from January 1, 2014. Fortuna’s branding will feature on the front of Legia’s home and away shirts, and it will also benefit from a presence at the team’s Pepsi Arena home, in club publications and on its official website. Elsewhere in its central Europe operating area, Fortuna also sponsors Czech Liga football teams Sparta Prague and Slavia Prague and the Slovakia national team. Fortuna replaces printing products company ActiveJet, which served as Legia Warsaw’s main sponsor for the past two years.

Jakub Szumielewicz, board member and executive director of Legia Warsaw, said: “The acquisition of Fortuna as main sponsor is of great satisfaction and this cooperation will certainly not only lead to the success of the Legia, but also the business development of our partner. Legia Warsaw is a club that provides great media exposure and the value of information to its partners. Therefore, we believe that both sides will reach significant and measurable benefits through the collaboration. Fortuna is a partner with a very solid foundation of business, cooperating in the past with famous sports clubs and now we see that it is also very active in their outreach activities aimed at supporting the club and the fans.”

Meanwhile, Legia has extended its technical partnership with Adidas until the end of June 2017 in a deal the club has said is the most lucrative kit contract in the history of the Polish game. The German-based sportswear giant will continue as the team’s kit manufacturer and, under expanded terms, it will provide a range of clothing and equipment to the Legia Warsaw Academy. The two partners will collaborate further on youth football through the “All in for pro” initiative, where the exploits of young players aiming to earn a professional contract with Legia Warsaw will be documented on YouTube.
