Interwetten steps up to assume Sevilla shirt sponsorship

Sevilla has extended its partnership with online betting group Interwetten in a deal that sees the company enhance its commitment to the Primera Division club by assuming its shirt sponsorship contract.

The agreement comes just weeks after Interwetten was awarded a licence allowing it to operate in the Spanish market under the Interwetten.es brand. The company sponsored Sevilla last season under its Interapuestas operation, but has now stated it will assume the shirt sponsorship until the club “closes a deal with a brand from a different industry”. Sevilla is one of a number of top flight Spanish teams who have struggled to find shirt sponsors in recent times and has been without a permanent partner since 12Bet.com failed to renew its agreement at the end of the 2010-11 season. Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido said that in principal the new deal only covers the 2012-13 season, but added that he is keen to turn the partnership into a long-term arrangement.

“For Sevilla FC it is extremely important to rely on sponsors with such influence as Interwetten has in a rising industry like sport betting,” said Del Nido. “We are also aware of the great effort made by Interwetten in order to become one of the authorised brands to be able to operate in our country, once the industry has been regulated by the Spanish government. Therefore, it is even more valuable, if that’s possible, that the trade relations started seasons ago has now consolidated with this sponsorship for the new season. Sevilla, as a body, is extremely satisfied for the trust Interwetten has invested in our club and our fans. The truth is that the commitment we always showed with this company has been rewarded, as with all companies we achieved sponsorship agreements with.”

Wolfgang Fabian, founder of Interwetten Group, added: “We are delighted to have obtained our license in Spain and to be able to cooperate with Sevilla FC, a club with a history full of success. Sevilla FC members and fans can be sure that Interwetten.es will be a great ally and will offer them all we have to guarantee them a safe experience with us. The whole Interwetten family is happy with this big agreement achieved with Sevilla FC, being part of its worldwide sponsorship plan that includes VfB Stuttgart, five teams from the Serie A in Italy, the Lotus team from F1 and Interwetten Paddock Team from Moto2.”
