Fila strikes for Avai FC
07 Jan 2014
Italian-founded, South Korean-owned sportswear brand Fila has signed a sponsorship and supply deal with second tier Brazilian soccer side Avai FC.
The deal will last for two years, until the end of the 2015 season, and will see Fila provide all playing kit and casual clothing for the team.
Avai FC, from Florianópolis, the second largest city in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, finished tenth in the 2013 season of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B.
The new partnership kicked in on 3rd January, when the team returned for pre-season, and Fila’s new lines will go on sale to the public in the second half of January.
Financial details have not been released.
Founded in 1911 in Biella, Italy, Fila made its name in the sports world through its sponsorship of tennis star Björn Borg in the 1970s.
Sold by its original Italian owners to a US hedgefund in 2003, it was bought out by Fila Korea in 2007.
