FIFA to implement 4K test at Confederations Cup
29 Apr 2013
FIFA has announced that it will embark on a test of 4K visual technology at the forthcoming Confederations Cup in Brazil.
The announcement was made at the first World Broadcaster Meeting (WBM) in Rio de Janeiro, which signalled the start of the television and multimedia production countdown to football’s flagship event.
FIFA will work with official partner Sony to implement the 4K test at the Confederations Cup, which kicks-off on June 15 in Brasilia. The technology enables broadcasters to capture action in some of the highest quality visuals available, with the footage set to be stored and used in years to come when the consumer television market has caught up with the next generation development.
“Television and multimedia will connect millions with the FIFA World Cup in Brazil,” said FIFA’s TV director Niclas Ericson. “FIFA looks forward to delivering the very best the industry can offer to those fans for a first class entertainment experience.”
